Hnefatafl is an ancient Viking game, has ancient origins
that date back to 400 AD and is a Scandinavian military strategy game played on a checkered
board that simulates a siege.
The game can be played by two players. One player plays the besieged army and King, the latter
placed at the center of the board, and the other player
plays the besieging army. On the battlefield 37 pieces, 13 white for the besieged army (12 soldiers and the
King) and 24 red for the besieging army, are positioned. The King, aided by his soldiers, must try to save himself
by
visiting one of the four corner squares of the board, while the 24 red soldiers should try to surround and kill the King.

ed è un gioco di scacchi Scandinavo di strategia militare in cui viene simulato
un assedio. I due giocatori interpretano l’esercito assediato col Re al centro
scacchiera e l’esercito assediante. Sul campo di battaglia sono
posizionate 37 pedine, 13 bianche per l’esercito assediato (12 soldati e il Re)
e 24 rosse per l’esercito assediante. Il Re, aiutato dai suoi soldati, deve
cercare di mettersi in salvo in una delle quattro caselle d’angolo della
scacchiera, mentre i 24 soldati rossi devono cercare di uccidere il Re
accerchiandolo.
